Happy Tails
Here we celebrate the joyful journeys of animals who found their forever homes through Yolo County Animal Services. Each adoption story is a testament to the love, patience, and second chances that change lives, both furry and human.

Mr. Bean
Adopt in February 2025
In November 2024, Mr. Bean was found stray by a group of teenagers in Woodland, CA. He was obese and showed other signs of neglect. That being said, he had a sunny and calm demeanor that volunteers fell in love with immediately. He was adopted and returned quickly due to the resident toddler having boundary issues. He was then adopted again, only to be returned less than 24 hours later due to the resident dog being too aggressive towards him. This gentle giant was getting so unlucky…then the perfect family reached out, fell in love, and took him home to the Sierra Nevada foothills.
“It feels like he’s lived with us his whole life. We have not had this much joy and laughter in a very long time. We love him so much.”

Preciosa (formerly Presley)
Adopted in December 2023
Surrendered to the shelter in 2016, Presley had the cruel moniker “Such A B***H”. We quickly changed her name immediately and she was adopted! 6 years later, she was found abandoned as a stray. Her 2nd stint in the shelter took a toll on her spirit but then she struck gold when a volunteer decided to adopt her. Presley was renamed Preciosa and embarked on a long road trip to her family’s new home in Las Cruces, NM. To this day, she is THRIVING.
“We love her so much. Everywhere we go with her, people are like crazy fawning over her lol. Like they audibly gasp and can’t wait to pet her. I did not anticipate she’d be so popular. It’s very well deserved though and Preciosa rightly eats it up!”

Boris
Adopted in October 2024
Boris was originally found as a stray on the side of the road waiting next to the bodies of two dead dog companions. He was understandably anxious and scored a foster home where he had the opportunity to decompress and show off his true, friendly personality.
He was first adopted in September but was returned to our shelter a month later after he was first adopted since the resident dog didn’t like him, but he quickly found another home with a friendly doggy sibling and 2 kiddos to run around with!

Archer (formerly Noodle)
Adopted in November 2024
Archer was one of our longest shelter residents. He was fun and whip smart—but the shelter environment was taking a toll on him. Normally he’s a cheerful pup who loved to learn new commands and play with toys, he was beginning to shut down.
An adopter saved the day when he came to meet Archer with his dog Frank. The two pups hit it off and the rest is history.

Mauna (formerly Mochi)
Adopted in December 2022
Mauna was surrendered to our shelter in November 2022 through no fault of his own. His good looks and charm were obvious from the start and it didn’t take long for Mauna to convince his foster mama to adopt him.
“Mauna Loa has a grumpy old man exterior, a Lucille Ball sense of humor, and a Mr Rogers approach to the world. He has an independent nonconformist spirit, shown best by his recent vet visits: wearing a muzzle as a scary-sounding dog but carrying an emotional support pink dragon to help him calm his anxiety. He tolerates sharing his space with all kinds and numbers of fosters who take his sleeping couch, his toys and often his food (as long as it isn’t favorite things: Hawaiian bread, pizza, or his dragon).”

Predator (formerly Zayn)
Adopted in March 2025
This 8 year old boy was brought to the shelter missing his nose and top lip, likely caused by squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer). Fortunately he was clinically doing well with breathing and eating; that being said, he needed palliative care to keep him comfortable for the remainder of his life.
His story captured many hearts and a kind woman came to adopt him. He got to spend a month in a loving home until he finally crossed the rainbow bridge.
